First post as a photographer! A visit to the National Science and Media Museum

It's been some time since I've written a post on this blog, but I have returned now as a fledgling photographer in my final year!

In order to get some inspiration for our future project, some friends and I went to the National Science and Media Museum in Bradford.

We initially began in the Poetics of Light: Pinhole Photography exhibition, where its imaginative images stood out due to the variety of techniques the photographers have used when using this primitive technology. For instance- some images were directly exposed on cibachrome print whilst one photographer placed film in the back of the artists mouth, and formed a pinhole with his lips.

The images in this exhibit were very much abstract, which is what I'm normally drawn to and is my preferred photographic style. Despite that, there was nothing that grabbed my attention or inspired me to go out and form a project based upon the photographs shown.

Nevertheless we went to the next exhibit called Britain in Focus: A Photographic History, which explored the changing ways we share and consume photographs, from the technological progress of the 19th century to the social selfies of current society.

Whilst the images were interesting, personally they seemed generic in their depiction of documentary photography (most likely because photographers have copied the conventions so often that they have become stereotypical); I always like to do something visually different in photography, but until I brainstorm various ideas for my project will I have a better understanding.
